Oil is spilled on the floor during the dinner rush. What do you do?
  1. Absorb whatever you can with a clean towel. Place another clean towel over top of the spill so that no one will slip on it and continue with service. Clean it up once the rush is over.
  2. Absorb whatever you can with a clean towel. Place a generous amount of salt on the area where the oil was and let it absorb. Sweep the salt into a dustpan, making sure the oil was all absorbed. Add more salt so that there is no risk of anyone slipping. Clean it up once the rush is over.
  3. Absorb whatever you can with a clean towel. Place a generous amount of salt on the area where the oil was and let it absorb. Sweep the salt into a dustpan, making sure the oil was all absorbed. Mop the area of the spill thoroughly, making sure all the oil was cleaned up. Try to dry the area as best as you can and continue with the rush.
  4. Warn your colleagues about the spill and do your best to avoid it. As soon as the rush is over, clean it up with hot, soapy water.
Explanation
Answer: C - While it may be difficult during a busy rush, OHSA standards dictate that any spill must be cleaned up right away. Salt is excellent for absorbing oil and creating traction, but it is not acceptable to leave salt on the floor throughout a service, even if it is very busy. Never leave towels or any other potential slipping hazards on the floor. Make sure the floor is clean and dry.
