The Advanced EMT (AEMT) exam is a certification exam administered by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT). The AEMT certification is a step above the basic EMT certification and allows the holder to perform more advanced medical procedures, including administering medications and using specialized equipment such as a defibrillator.
The AEMT exam consists of both a cognitive (written) and psychomotor (skills) component. The cognitive exam is computer-based and consists of 150 multiple-choice questions. The psychomotor exam consists of a series of hands-on skills that the candidate must demonstrate competency in, such as patient assessment, managing respiratory emergencies, and administering medication.
To be eligible to take the AEMT exam, candidates must have completed an AEMT education program and have a current certification as an EMT. They must also hold a current CPR certification and have a current, unrestricted state driver's license.
The AEMT exam is designed to test the knowledge and skills of candidates at a level that reflects the entry-level competencies for the Advanced EMT role. It is designed to assess the candidate's ability to safely and effectively perform the duties of an AEMT in the prehospital setting.
Dynamic Path is neither affiliated with nor endorsed by NREMT or any other organization.
