If a participant is new to training, recovering from a long injury or illness, or very overweight, you should:
  1. Advise them not to start spinning classes until they have a fitness base that enables them to participate fully.
  2. Encourage the participant to work at or below 75% of their maximum heart rate until they have established a good fitness base
  3. Encourage them to work as hard as they can to rapidly improve their fitness.
  4. Group them with others of a similar fitness level for peer support.
Explanation
Answer: B - If a participant is new to training, recovering from a long injury or illness, or very overweight, you should encourage the participant to work at or below 75% of his or her maximum heart rate until he or she has established a good fitness base. Participants who are not accustomed to the effort of a spin class or who have a low level of base fitness should aim to progress slowly and not over-exert themselves early in their training. Doing so could exacerbate underlying health conditions, lead to new injury or illness, and be de motivating.
