Antipsychotics are of particular interest for the area of dentistry, for there are many side effects that can cause injury during treatment. Tardive dyskinesia or abnormal involuntary movements can occur in patients that have prolonged use of antipsychotics. Parkinsonian symptoms such as tremors and rigidity can effect treatment. Motor restlessness and difficulty in mouth opening, jaw muscle contraction or jaw dislocation may be present in patients taking antipsychotics.
