Explanation
Answer - A - Insanity is a legal term. It indicates that a person cannot be held responsible for his/her actions because of mental illness.

This is commonly referred to in criminal law.  According to Cornell Law School, criminal insanity is defined as a mental defect or disease that makes it impossible for a defendant to understand their actions, or to understand that their actions are wrong. A defendant found to be criminally insane can assert an insanity defense.

A person receiving an insanity diagnosis will require protection and typically will be placed in the custody of a guardian or facility.
