The optimum lens color for outdoor tennis players is __________ . Choose all that apply.

  1. Orange
  2. Yellow
  3. Brown
  4. Gray
Explanation

Answers: A and C-Both orange and brown lenses would be the optimum lens color for a tennis player.

Orange or brown lenses will pick up the color of the yellow ball better, provide more contrast and still give the darkness needed for a sunglass. Additionally these lenses should be polarized to completely eliminate glare from tennis court surfaces and annoying glare from surrounding surfaces.

Yellow will give the needed contrast but will not be dark enough to prevent squinting. A gray color will not give as much contrast as either orange or brown.

Larry Moskowitz says:

I had reported (to ABO) that when they offer two choices for one question, there is no way to choose 'both'. There were (at least) 3 questions that were done this way (including this question) when I first reported this to ABO. Some poor soul may fail the exam no matter which of the two choices they make. This is NOT ok, and the ABO needs to change this. I have 50 years experience as a licensed optician, so I know what I'm talking about.
