Answer: C - In 26 CE, Emperor Tiberius exiled himself from Rome and spent the last nine years of his life in Misenum, allowing prefects to manage his empire. One of his prefects “encouraged” his death by smothering him with a pillow. Tiberius was Rome’s second emperor. Augustus Caesar, the first Roman emperor, died of natural causes while still in power. Caligula (the third emperor) inherited the throne from Tiberius in 37 CE but was assassinated in Rome four years later. Nero became the fifth emperor 17 years later and committed suicide in 68 CE after fleeing Rome (but not in exile). Constantine was the 57th emperor and died of natural causes in Constantinople.
