Answer: A - The Truman Doctrine advocated a foreign policy of containment to stop the spread of Communism. It won bipartisan support in Congress. The ideology given voice by the doctrine defined American political thought for the rest of the 20th century and remains central to U.S. foreign policy. Following the end of the Cold War and the fall of the Soviet Union, which greatly diminished the threat of Communism continuing to spread, the United States employed the principle of containment to other opposing political forces on the world stage, like foreign dictators whose regimes threatened American interests, or rogue terrorist cells.
