Answer: D - Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka, et al. (1954) struck down the “separate but equal” doctrine that was codified by the earlier Supreme Court decision in Plessy v. Ferguson (1896). The court ruled unanimously that “separate but equal” inherently creates inequality, which the justices stated “[had] no place in the field of public education.”
