Answer: C-An important part of the preoperative process for a patient preparing for a kidney transplant is assessing the patient’s mouth for gingivitis and tooth decay. The patient who is receiving a kidney through transplantation is at increased risk for infection. Infection may arise from a variety of sources, including through the surgical procedure itself; however there may be minor bodily infections that contribute to sepsis. The patient with gum disease or tooth decay has mouth infections that could spread in an immunocompromised patient.
