The Minoan civilization lasted from approximately 3650 to 1100 BCE. Early inhabitants of Crete were descendants of Anatolians, the region of the Near East inhabited by Hittites, then Lydians. Minoans also had strong ties to Egypt, with whom they engaged in frequent seafaring trade.
