Answer: A - The policies of the Committee of Public Safety were dictatorial. Under the leadership of Robespierre, the government took over many aspects of private life and enterprise. For example, the levée en masse conscripted virtually all the French men into the army to fight the European war. The Committee also took absolute control over the economy, forcing citizens to exchange gold for assignats, the currency of the French Revolution.
