Answer: C - Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was assassinated in Memphis, Tennessee, on April 4, 1968. He was in Memphis to help mediate a resolution to a strike by the city’s African-American sanitation workers. The night before his death, he delivered a rendition of his “I Have a Dream Speech” that included the memorable passage, “I just want to do God’s will. And He’s allowed me to go up to the mountain. And I’ve looked over. And I have seen the promised land. I may not get there with you. But, I want you to know tonight, that we, as a people, will get to the promised land...” King was struck down by the single bullet of a lone assassin, James Earl Ray. News of his death was met with widespread racial riots in 131 cities in America that night.
