Answer: A - Bismarck enacted social reforms to dampen the socialist movement. He vehemently opposed socialism and did all that he could to deter the German Social Democratic Party, which formed in 1875. He hoped that by addressing the needs of workers, the socialism movement would die out. Thus, Germany became the first nation to provide social security measures, such as pensions and accident insurance.
