This is unfortunate as these are just initial symptoms and longer-term outcomes of the baby are still to be revealed including not meeting developmental milestones in speech and language. Unfortunately, these are exacerbating stressors for a parent fighting addiction. The child may need additional care beyond that of a normal infant. The counselor should factor this into the treatment plan.  Support and capacity building are essential.
