Answer: D - A collection tube with a dark blue or royal blue top is used when collecting samples for trace elements and toxicology studies, as well as certain drug levels. Dark blue/ royal blue topped tubes may contain the additive sodium heparin or EDTA. It does not contain metal products and will not contaminate the specimen. Double-check when using this colored top; some facilities may also use dark blue or royal blue top tubes with a red label around the tube. Dark blue tops with red labels are not the same; the red label indicates it is for coagulation studies.
