Answer: C - Alcohol abuse is a contraindication relating to breastfeeding. Alcohol and other substances, like illicit drugs and caffeine, pass to the baby in the mother’s milk. A rare or occasional glass of wine can be tolerated, but moderation is necessary. Other contraindications include untreated active tuberculosis, HIV, and substance abuse. Women who have had a total hysterectomy can induce lactation; and sore nipples, although uncomfortable, is not a contraindication of breast-feeding.
