After traveling up the Eastern seaboard of the United States, it eventually heads due east across the Atlantic. The current splits mid-ocean; one branch eventually reaches West Africa while the other branch goes to Northern Europe. The warm Gulf Stream waters affect the climate of several European nations-Great Britain among them-making them warmer than other countries at their latitude.
