Colonoscopy is a medical procedure that is mostly used for diagnostic purposes and is usually performed outside an operating room and without any incisions. Therefore, persons may not consider it a surgery although in medical terms it is considered a minimally invasive surgery. During a colonoscopy, the physician may remove tissue and/or polyps for further examination and possibly treat any problems that are discovered.
