Needle sticks are considered “high risk” when the needle pierces the skin of a patient and then accidentally re-sticks the health care provider. Viruses such as HIV and Hepatitis B are of big concern through these wounds. Most health care providers receive Hepatitis B vaccines as a result of this risk.
