Answers: A, B, C,&D - When a patient has labored breathing and is utilizing accessory muscles, the sternocleidomastoid, scalene, trapezoids and abdominal muscles are all in use.

With accessory muscle breathing, the patient will engage muscles other than just the diaphragm. When a patient has labored breathing, and is utilizing accessory muscles, they engage the sternocleidomastoid, scalene, trapezoids and abdominal muscles. Use of additional muscles from the back, neck, abdomen, and spine will also assist in air movement.
