 The Counselor Preparation Comprehensive Exam (CPCE) is an exam administered by the Center for Credentialing & Education (CCE). Currently, over 320 colleges and universities across the United States for prospective counselors. The CPCE exam is intended to assess knowledge of important counseling skills and abilities.  This is a supplemental practice tool, great for additional practice.

Why take the CPCE?
 
The CPCE (Counseling Preparation Comprehensive Examination) is a standardized test designed to assess the knowledge and competency of counseling students and graduates. The exam covers a wide range of topics, including human growth and development, counseling theories, ethics, multicultural issues, and assessment and diagnosis.
 
The CPCE (Counseling Preparation Comprehensive Examination) is a computer-based exam that consists of 160 multiple-choice questions. The exam is timed, and test-takers have four hours to complete it.
 
The questions on the CPCE cover a broad range of counseling topics, including human development, counseling theories, ethics, research, and assessment and diagnosis. The exam is designed to assess both knowledge and application of counseling concepts and principles.
 
The questions on the CPCE are randomly generated from a large pool of questions, so the specific questions that a test-taker receives may differ from those received by other test-takers. The exam is also adaptive, meaning that the difficulty level of the questions adjusts based on the test-taker's previous answers.

The CPCE exam contains 160 questions (136 scored, 24 unscored) divided across the following eight categories: Professional Counseling Orientation and Ethical Practice (17 questions, 12.5%), Social and Cultural Diversity (17 questions, 12.5%), Human Growth and Development (17 questions, 12.5%), Career Development (17 questions, 12.5%), Counseling and Helping Relationships (17 questions, 12.5%), Group Counseling and Group Work (17 questions, 12.5%), Assessment and Testing (17 questions, 12.5%), Research and Program Evaluation (17 questions, 12.5%).

The CPCE exam is also 3 hours and 45 minutes long.

The CPCE Counselor exam is intended to evaluate test takers’ knowledge of core concepts taught in counselor education programs.
