Which is NOT an advantage of using anterior knee block as a wheelchair support?
  1. Maintains lower extremity alignment
  2. Provides broader base of support
  3. Increases stability
  4. Increases extensor tone
Explanation

Answer: D - Increasing the extensor tone is not an advantage of using anterior knee block as wheelchair support.
The anterior knee block reduces the extensor tone.

Two types of wheelchair adjustments you will see for comfort and support are adductors and knee blocks.

Adductors are similar to laterals but are used for lower body positioning and support. They help keep the legs and thigh region in position and act as supports and rests for clients with muscle weakness. Adductors are available in swing-away versions with a release button. The swing away allows for easy transfers. Adductors are usually made from strong and durable metal which is simple to mount.

Knee blocks are sleek and have a discreet version of the adductors. They do not have a swing-away mechanism and are meant for clients who require a gentle block at the knee to prevent them from abducting.  Knee blocks are available with either a tracking mount or a tube mount that nicely fits around the tubing of a wheelchair.
