David switched on his system and opened his messenger application. Surprisingly, a Word document opens up instead. What kind of an attack has probably occurred?
  1. Sniffer attack
  2. Worm
  3. Virus
  4. Logic bomb
Explanation
Answer - D - When a Word document opening when a messenger application is opened is a classic symptom of the computer being affected by a logic bomb.

Key Takeaway: A logic bomb notifies an attacker when a certain set of circumstances has occurred, triggering an attack on the system. The logic bomb lies dormant until a specific piece of program logic is activated, most commonly, a date. The logic bomb checks the system and does nothing until a pre-programmed date and time is reached. When the date is reached, the logic bomb activates and executes the action it was designed for.

Doug Cordero says:

I don't think this question is very helpful. You state the logic bomb is based on date/time, yet the exploit that occurs is a different program opens. So, are you suggesting the logic event passed, and now the bomb is occurring via Word opening and not Messenger? If so, the premise of the question is mistaken, misleading and poor. If not, then the definition of logic bomb needs to be expanded to include other rationale.
