Category - FAA Private Pilot

Refer to Figure 54 on page 56.
What is the CG of the glider if the pilot and passenger each weigh 215 pounds?
  1. 81.08 at max gross weight and within limits
  2. 81.08 over weight and within limits
  3. 85.25 weight okay, but aft of CG range
  4. 1040 weight and 84323.7 CG out of range
Explanation
Correct answer: A. 81.08 at max gross weight and within limits. First calculate the max weight. The plane weighs 610 and the two people on the plane weigh 215 each which equals 1040 pounds - the max gross weight. Now find the arm for each. The glider is 610 pounds X 96.47 which is 58845.7. The front person is 215 pounds X 43.8 equals 9417. The back seat person is 215 X 74.7 equals 16060. Now add the three arms together which equals 84323.7 divided by the weight of the total of the weights which equals 1040, this leads to the CG of 81.08 and is within the range.
