Answer: C - An ectopic pregnancy is the term for the implantation of a developing fetus outside of the uterus. The most common place for this to happen is in the fallopian tubes. An ectopic pregnancy will present with acute, sharp, usually one-sided pain about 6-8 weeks after the last menstrual period and is a true life threat. When you have a female patient of child-bearing age complaining of lower abdominal pain, consider ectopic pregnancy until proven otherwise.
