This allows it to be installed on much smaller disks or USB pen devices. The fact there is less code translates directly into fewer patches being needed. ESXi does not have a service console and therefore you cannot install third-party agents, nor does ESXi have a firewall; it is assumed that if you deploy ESXi that you will have a secure network with its own external firewall.
