There is minimal stranger anxiety; however there can be separation anxiety from parents. Newborns do not like the feeling of suffocation by an oxygen mask; test breathing from a distance - watch chest rise, note color and level of activity. Always examine heart and lungs first, temperature last; this prevents the child from getting agitated and helps build a comfort level. Always keep a newborn warm. Infants are from the age of 1 month - 12 months; they should be treated as above.
