Answer: A - The Southern colonies most closely resembled the landed gentry of England in their social structure. In fact, most of the large plantations in the American South were the result of land grants bestowed upon wealthy British families. The Southerners also imported their goods from England and maintained essentially the same lifestyle as their wealthy British counterparts.
