Answer: B - Standard of care addresses how an individual with a specific level of training would be expected to act under a certain set of circumstances. It addresses whether a responder has provided an appropriate level of care to a patient. Determining whether a responder has provided the standard of care is partially based on the scope of practice for the responder based on his/her level of training. The term competence more specifically refers to whether a patient is able to understand a responder’s questions and the implications of the decisions the patient makes.
