Answer: B - After the Irish, the majority of immigrants were German. The United States had always hosted a number of German immigrants due to its Protestant roots. However, that number increased dramatically in the mid-19^th century as German immigrants filled the American Midwest. Mexican and Italian immigrants would begin to come in large numbers at the end of the 19^th century.
