Answer: B - The liver gets its venous blood from the intestines. The blood from the intestines is transported to the liver by the portal system. The liver detoxifies the fluid, stores excess nutrients, adds nutrients when they are deficient, and then sends the blood into the inferior vena cava for a return to the general circulation. When medication passes through the liver it may lose some of its potency through the detoxifying process.
