Answer: A - Factitious disorder is when a person acts as if they have an illness by deliberately producing, feigning, or exaggerating symptoms while seeking external incentives. Factitious by proxy is when the behavior is geared to another under the care of the person making the claims. This is most often seen as Munchausen syndrome and Munchausen by proxy syndrome. This condition is characterized by three criteria: an intentional production of physical signs or symptoms, motivation to assume the “sick role,” and external incentives for the behavior.
