Answer: C - It is important for teachers to advocate for the needs of all learners, which requires that they do all of the following EXCEPT identify students that would benefit from minimal parental involvement by investigating how each student feels about their caretakers’ participation. Unless there are severe and extenuating circumstances, it is not appropriate for a teacher to exclude a student’s caregivers from their child’s educational program. Teachers have a responsibility to foster relationships with every person that has an educational interest in their students. This includes parents and guardians, colleagues and any personnel that work with their students. One example wherein it is appropriate to exclude a parent is when presented with rare, court-ordered actions such as custody orders.
