Answer: A - To be able to give expressed consent the patient must be able to make a rational decision, be of legal age, and be informed of all steps of any procedures and the risks associated with them. Expressed consent has to be obtained from all conscious and mentally competent adults before you render care. Some minors may be emancipated by the courts and able to render their own consent. Emancipation generally is based upon the minor’s status as a parent themselves or has been granted due to extraordinary circumstances. Consult your local legislation and system protocols regarding how to ascertain and document the emancipated minor’s status.
