Answer: A - If a technician is examining an emergency patient and notices petechiae in the inguinal area and on the mucous membranes, disseminated intravascular coagulation may be present. This condition consists of excessive clotting of blood within the vessels and can present with petechiae and ecchymoses as symptoms. This condition is secondary to any of several other primary conditions which must also be resolved in order to restore normal equilibrium to the patient's systems.
