Answer: B - Genghis Khan and Kublai Khan were leaders of the Mongol Empire, a civilization in northern Asia that lasted from 1206 to 1368 C.E. It ultimately became the largest contiguous land empire in history, covering roughly 30 percent of Earth’s total landmass. Genghis Khan founded the empire and instigated much of the Mongols’ expansion. They had control of the Silk Road, but allowed others to travel on it if they paid taxes. Under Kublai Khan (Genghis Khan’s grandson), the Mongols expanded far enough into China that they were able to mount a campaign to wrest control from the Song Dynasty. Kublai Khan succeeded in defeating the Song, and he created theYuan Dynasty. The Mongols’ Yuan Dynasty lasted almost 100 years until the Han regained control of China and established the Ming Dynasty.
