At approximately what age is the infant physically and developmentally able to have foods?
  1. 2 to 4 months.
  2. 4 to 6 months.
  3. 6 to 7 months.
  4. 7 to 8 months.
Explanation
Answer: B - Developmentally and physically, the infant is able to have home-prepared or commercially prepared foods between 4 and 6 months of age. Additionally, waiting until the infant is at least 4 to 6 months of age appears to prevent the onset of food allergies for the infant. This food is gradually introduced to the infant and it usually progresses from cereals, to fruits, vegetables, and finally meats, according to the American Academy of Pediatrics.

Is this in Line with WHO rec? Breast milk is the best food, alone, until 6 mo

Abigail Garrison says:

I disagree with the answer. All breastfeeding text and the WHO recommend not starting solids until 6 month and the infant needs to be able to sit up unassisted. Starting before 6 months is detrimental to their nutrition and gut health and could be dangerous because of choking.
