Category - Assessment

An individual is in your office and threatening to do harm to himself or another. Your first step is to assess for:
  1. Means to carry out the threat
  2. Degree of seriousness
  3. Whether or not a plan is in place
  4. Mental status
Explanation
Answer - C - If a client is presenting as a danger to himself, the degree of seriousness is irrelevant. Whether or not a plan is in place will determine whether or not you need to assess for a means to carry it out. Mental status does not enter the assessment until a more appropriate time and usually occurs closer to assessment.
