Answer - B - A patient displaying a fever soon after receiving an IV may have Pyrogens. A pyrogenic reaction occurs when Pyrogens are present in the administration set or intravenous solution. Pyrogens are foreign particles that enter the blood stream and are capable of producing fever. It is characterized by the abrupt onset of fever, chills, backache, headache, nausea, and vomiting. Cardiovascular collapse may also happen. Terminate IV immediately; start another one in the other arm with new set-up.
