The Maternal Newborn Nursing Core Certification (RNC-MNN) demonstrates the specialty knowledge of licensed registered nurses in providing care to the childbearing family from birth to six weeks within hospital or outpatient settings.

Maternal Postpartum Assessment, Management and Education (26%) including Physiologic Changes and Physical Assessment (Laboratory Values) Nursing Care Lactation Psychosocial and Ethical Issues Newborn Feeding and Nutrition
Newborn Assessment and Management (19%), including
Transition to Extrauterine Life Physical Assessment and Gestational Age Assessment (including Laboratory Values) Newborn Care and Family Education Resuscitation and Stabilization 
Maternal Postpartum Complications (24%) including Hematologic Cardiovascular Infection Diabetes Mood and substance use disorders 
Newborn Complications (24%) including Cardiovascular and Respiratory Neurological and Gastrointestinal Hematologic Infectious disease Genetic, Metabolic and Endocrine


There are 175 questions (150 scored, 25 unscored) on the RNC-MNN exam, depending on your performance throughout the exam.

The RNC-MNN exam is 3 hours long.

Earning a passing score on the RNC-MNN exam grants the test taker RNC-MNN certification.
