The Examination for Professional Practice in Psychology (EPPP) is a licensing examination for psychologists in the United States and many Candian provinces. It is administered by the Association of State and Provincial Psychology Boards (ASPPB) and is designed to assess the knowledge, skills, and abilities of psychologists seeking licensure in their state or province.

The EPPP is a computer-based test that consists of 225 multiple-choice questions. The exam covers eight content areas: biological bases of behavior, cognitive-affective bases of behavior, social and cultural bases of behavior, growth and lifespan development, assessment and diagnosis, treatment, research methods, and professional standards and ethics.

To be eligible to take the EPPP, individuals must have completed a doctoral degree in psychology from an accredited program and meet other requirements set by the ASPPB. The EPPP is one of several requirements for licensure as a psychologist in the United States, and individuals must pass the exam in order to be granted a license to practice psychology.

The Examination is in multiple-choice format, and tests eight content areas all representing a specific percentage of the exam. These include:

  • Biological bases of behavior (12%)
  • Cognitive-affective bases of behavior (13%)
  • Social and multicultural bases of behavior (12%)
  • Growth and life-span development (12%)
  • Assessment and diagnosis (14%)
  • Research methods and statistics (8%)
