The Dental Admissions Test is given by the American Dental Association (ADA) designed to identify qualified applicants to dental colleges, and is used by many dental schools across the US, as well as by colleges in in Canada. Besides taking the DAT, applicants to dentistry colleges must also complete at least two years of college, including coursework in biology, general chemistry, and organic chemistry.
The DAT is a Computer Based Test with 280 multiple choice questions, with a total of 4 hours and 15 minutes to complete the exam. A basic function calculator is provided for the quantitative reasoning questions.

There are four DAT exams, the Survey of the Natural Sciences (SNS) exam, the Perceptual Ability Test (PAT) exam, the Reading Comprehension Test (RCT) exam, and the Quantitative Reasoning Test (QRT) exam. The Survey of the Natural Sciences (SNS) exam contains 100 questions divided across three categories: basic biology (40 minutes), general chemistry (30 minutes), and organic chemistry (30 questions). The Perceptual Ability Test (PAT) exam contains 90 questions of the two dimensional and three dimensional variety. The Reading Comprehension Test (RCT) exam contains 50 questions and three reading passages. The Quantitative Reasoning Test (QRT) exam contains 40 questions divided across two categories: mathematics (30 questions) and applied mathematics (10 questions).
The DAT exams are 4 hours and 30 minutes long in total.
The passing score for the DAT exams is not specified, but the averages for each exam is as follows: QRT (18.12), RCT (20.34), SNS (18.15), and PAT (18.86).
