There are 90 questions (80 scored, 10 unscored) on the PTCE divided across the following four categories: Medications (40%), Federal Requirements (12.5%), Patient Safety and Quality Assurance (26.25%), and Order Entry and Processing (21.25%).

The PTCE is 2 hours long.

Earning a passing score on the PTCE exam is necessary as part of a test taker’s elgitibility for PTCB CPhT certification.
